NDP Leader Discusses Affordable Housing – May 6, 2021 NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh holds a virtual news conference to outline his party’s plan on affordable housing, which includes investments to build 500,000 new homes. The NDP also wants to put in place a national foreign buyers tax similar to one implemented by British Columbia in 2016. A 20 per cent tax would be added when a foreign buyer purchases a residential property, with the aim of reducing prices in an overheated housing market. The NDP leader is joined by Bonita Zarrillo, Coquitlam city councillor and NDP candidate for Port Moody-Coquitlam, B.C., in the next federal election, as well as by two residents who share their experiences of trying to find affordable housing.
