Rivers United arrive Port Novo ahead Bloemfontein Celtics clash 1 min read
Rivers United have arrived Port Novo in Benin Republic, ahead of this weekend’s game against South African Side, Bloemfontein Celtics in the CAF Confederations Cup.
The Port Harcourt based side hold a 2 goal advantage from the first leg played in December but could not host the game in Nigeria due to strict Covid-19 regulations by the Federal Government, requiring the visiting South Africans to quarantine for 14 days before the game can hold.
The Confederation of African Football Approved a request by Rivers United to hold the game in Benin Republic, with the winner drawn to face Enyimba Football Club in the final qualifying round of the competition’s group stage.

Rivers United FC have qualified for the final preliminary stage of the CAF Confederation Cup, after defeating Bloemfontein Celtic 3-0.
The match was played at the Charles De Gaulles Stadium, Port Novo in Benin Republic on Saturday.
Media Officer of the club, Charles Mayuku, said in a statement after the match on Saturday that the Port Harcourt based club comfortably booked its place with two goals from Godwin Aguda and one from Fortune Omoniwari.
Mayuku stated that Bloemfontein Celtic that was 2-0 down from the first leg, knew they were up with a difficult task, which even became more daunting just after kick-off.

Nigeria Professional Football League side Rivers United have arrived Port Novo, Benin Republic, ahead of their second leg preliminary round CAF Confederation Cup clash against South African side Bloemfontein Celtic.
The game will be played at the Charles de Gaulle Stadium, Port Novo on Saturday.
Rivers coach Stanley Eguma confirmed this to our correspondent on Thursday.
“We are in Benin Republic for the second leg game,” Eguma told The PUNCH.
The Confederation of African Football postponed the second leg initially scheduled for January 6 in Port Harcourt and moved it to Benin Republic after the Nigeria Football Federation wrote the continental football body seeking a shift of date and venue following COVID-19 restrictions in the country.
