aonyon@leaderherald.com GLOVERSVILLE The city will apply for a $1 million federal grant this year on behalf of the Gloversville Water Works to cover the cost of a planned rehabilitation project at the Jackson Summit Reservoir. The Common Council during the Jan. 26 meeting authorized the submission of a $1 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Community Development Block Grant application through the state Office of Community Renewal for improvements to the Jackson Summit Reservoir. The grant funds would be applied to the reconstruction of the reservoir’s 1940s era spillway chute as called for by the state Department of Environmental Conservation to meet dam safety requirements. The concrete chute is currently deteriorating beyond repair, requiring the original chute and subsurface to be completely removed and replaced.
