Nearly 100 golfers participated in the 32nd Annual Chick Schaffner Memorial Charity Golf Classic on Monday. As usual, it was a tremendous event. The tournament has raised nearly $300,000 for its signature beneficiaries Stein Hospice and the American Heart Association. Much thanks to our sponsors, especially Materion.
My father was Vice President and Plant Manager for the Elmore facility from 1948 to his retirement and untimely passing in 1971.
Billy Market just turned 60!!! Happy Birthday!!! Billy is the principal owner of the Miller Boat Lines. He was “once upon a time” a very good baseball player at Port Clinton High School.

Chief Rob Hickman knew back in 2012 he was going to retire from the Port Clinton Police Department on June 28, 2021, and his new game plan was already in place after three decades.
Hickman’s passions are his wife, Roseann, a Port Clinton Councilwoman, a family that includes a batch of kids and eight grandchildren. He wants to travel, and take the family along, and now has a recreational camper to go with his motorcycle.
“The impact that this five-day festival has on our local economy is outstanding,” said Nicole Kochensparger, president of Main Street Port Clinton and the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce.
That outstanding impact is what made last year’s cancelation so difficult, she said, but it also has encouraged them to make this year’s festival better than ever.
Gear up for music, rides, parades, vendors and programs
Described as “one of Ohio’s premier outdoor weekend celebrations,” this year’s 40th annual Walleye Festival will feature live musical performances, carnival rides, educational programs, other activities and more than 130 vendors from around the country.
