SAN DIEGO一 At their March 9 meeting the Port of San Diego approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the port, the San Diego Wildlife Refuge Complex, and Poseidon Resource to work together on the restoration of South San Diego Bay Wetlands.
The MOU allows the three parties to come together to share information and coordinate on various projects in south San Diego Bay.
“It is sharing information,” said Eileen Maher, director of environmental conservation for the Port of San Diego. “We will have some long-term monitoring after both projects, we will be sharing doing some joint monitoring along the tidal river to make sure there are no issues from the construction of the two projects. We want to make sure our two projects are beneficial for the wildlife that will enter it.”
During their extended meeting on January 21, the Nome Port Commission clarified the next steps for the Deep Draft Port, discussed funding for the Ramp Improvement Project, and decided to request more funding from the Nome City Council.
“The city agreed to the 20% on the existing grant. We must commit to 20% on the increased match.”

That’s Nome’s Port Director, Joy Baker, speaking to the Nome City Council on Monday about funding for the Ramp Replacement Project. The City is expected to handle a fifth of the cost with a previous grant agreement, but the project will cost more than expected. The Port Commission spent a large portion of their meeting last week discussing how to handle the increased cost.

Longtime plans for a second Port of Whitman County Industrial Park in Pullman on the North end of town have come to an end.
The Port Commissioners voted unanimously on Thursday to sell the remaining 8 acres in what was once called Pullman Industrial Park West. The ground near the intersection of North Grand Avenue and Albion Road will be sold to a Pullman company. Veterinary Medical Research & Development has agreed to buy the ground for just under 460,000 dollars to expand their operation.
The port sold most of its land in Pullman Industrial Park West two years ago. A Texas development company bought the property for a high-end student housing complex which is now under construction.
