WESTFIELD The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council in the spring of 2018 identified 16 priority projects for promotion. The goal was to develop long-term strategic plans for economic growth for properties in need of new life.
One of the projects identified sought to transform the historic Welch building in downtown Westfield into a multi-use property. Nearly three years later, and a deal involving a Buffalo development group that has since fallen through, the Portage Street property is again on the market.
Hanna Commercial Real Estate has the 49,000-square-foot building listed for $495,000. The Welch building was constructed in 1910 and used as the company’s headquarters until the mid-1980s.

KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) Two Boil Water Advisories have been issued in the Kalamazoo area which will go into effect Friday morning.
A new water main is being installed on Portage Street to the existing water main on Stockbridge Avenue. That work is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. tomorrow and a precautionary boil water advisory will begin at that time for residents in the area.
And a water main installation for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Gull Road, “G” Avenue, and 27th Street also begins Friday at 8:00 a.m.. The work will result in a temporary loss of pressure, so a precautionary boil water advisory is being issued there as well at the same time.
Police searching for suspect in shooting of Kalamazoo man near supermarket

KALAMAZOO, MI – A Kalamazoo man was shot Tuesday afternoon.
The man was shot around 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the 1800 block of Portage Street, near Town and Country Supermarket, Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety spokesperson Ryan Bridges said.
The man is expected to recover, Bridges said.
The shooter and victim knew each other, and it was a targeted shooting, Bridges said. There is no threat to the community.
The victim helped police identify the suspect and they are actively searching for him, Bridges said.
