N S reports two COVID-19 cases; changes to vaccine rollout for those over the age of 80

HALIFAX Health officials in Nova Scotia are reporting two new cases of COVID-19 on Friday. Both cases are in the Central zone. Public health says one is a close contact to a previously reported case and the other case remains under investigation. Nova Scotia currently has 31 active cases of COVID-19. BOOKING APPOINTMENTS FOR PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 80 In a news conference on Friday, Strang acknowledged an issue earlier this week, where people over the age of 80 had troubles booking their vaccine appointments after the system crashed due to heavy online-traffic. Monday was not a good day for anyone who tried to book an appointment. I recognize it was a frustrating and negative experience for many. We know we need to do better and we will, said Strang.

Nova Scotia lifts some restrictions in Halifax area due to low COVID-19 case numbers

  HALIFAX Nova Scotia announced that some of the tighter restrictions throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality and neighbouring communities announced last week are being lifted on Friday. We re not as concerned about having cases with no known cause, and so Dr. Strang was comfortable, public health brought forth a recommendation that we would relax those and I m happy that we re able to do that, said N.S. Premier Iain Rankin. On Feb. 26, the province announced new restrictions surrounding restaurant hours, sport competitions, culture performances and non-essential travel. The restrictions were originally scheduled to be in effect until at least March 26, but public health says low case numbers allow them to ease those restrictions three weeks early.

Nova Scotia Health is holding asymptomatic rapid testing at the following locations: Monday, March 1 at the Halifax Convention Centre, Argyle Street entrance, from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. and at Halifax Central Library in Paul O Regan Hall, from 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.   Tuesday, March 2 at the Halifax Central Library in Paul O Regan Hall, from 12 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.   Drop-in testing available Monday March 1 and Tuesday March 2 at the Royal Canadian Legion Calais Branch 162, 45 Sackville Cross Rd, Lower Sackville from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Avoid non-essential travel Premier Iain Rankin warned against complacency because of the low number of new cases.
