Home suffers severe damage in Battle Creek fire

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. â Crews responded to a house fire in Battle Creek Tuesday evening.
They arrived on scene in the area of Lamora Avenue and Kellogg Street to discover black smoke billowing from the back of the home, according to the Battle Creek Fire Department.
Weâre told crews extinguished the fire quickly while a separate unit searched for victims. Authorities say the fire dealt severe damage to the structure.
The fire department says no victims were found in the structure, and no firefighters were injured.

A Battle Creek home was severely damaged in a Tuesday evening fire.
Battle Creek Fire Department crews responded to a house fire Tuesday at 6:23 p.m. The home, located at 120 Lamara Avenue near Kellogg Street, had thick black smoke billowing from the back when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.

While one crew attacked the blaze from inside the home with water lines, another unit performed a search for victims. No victims were located and the fire was quickly extinguished. Crews remained on the scene for a time to ensure the fire remained out.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. â Battle Creek Police have arrested Henry Lewis Jones Jr. on charges of murder and child abuse in the death of 18-month-old Drequan Scott on Saturday, Nov. 7.
On Monday, Dec. 21, police received information that Jones was thought to be in Kalamazoo.
Members of the Kalamazoo Valley Enforcement Team located Jones Monday night.
Police took Jones to the Calhoun County Jail, where he awaits arraignment on the charges.
On Nov. 7, police, the Battle Creek Fire Department, and Marshall Ambulance responded to a medical emergency call for Scott.
