Push for war memorial to pilot who tried to kill his baby son

Adelaide: Son has fought to get his father WWII memorial plague despite shooting him when he was one

A man whose WWII pilot father shot him in the head as a one-year-old has successfully campaigned for his late dad to get a $2,000 memorial plaque. The plate for WWII fighter pilot Robert Bungey, who took his own life shortly after shooting his baby son Richard, was granted by Holdfast council in Adelaide, South Australia. Councillor and family friend Rosemary Clancy opposed the plaque because she did not want to commemorate someone who had perpetrated domestic violence.   Richard Bungey s WWII fighter pilot father Robert (pictured) shot him in the head as a one-year-old, but has successfully campaigned for his late dad to get a $2,000 memorial plaque

Cyberattack on U S government is just part of a vast and ignored Russian threat

ANALYSIS/OPINION: Russia’s recent mass-scale cyber intelligence operation, targeting multiple government agencies, corporations and think tanks, was a catastrophic event. The Russians compromised vital U.S. infrastructure, defense and technology industries, and critical government agencies, such as the Departments of Homeland Security, Defense, State, Energy and Treasury. The attackers exhibited highly sophisticated tradecraft, exceptional operational stealth, and extreme patience and determination.  What very few Americans realize is that this is but a single page out of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s war plan for defeating America. The success of this operation resulted from a failure to recognize the systemic Russian threat to the United States and treat it with the seriousness it requires. While the American leadership class is focused on the long-range threat from China and fantasies about Mr. Putin deputizing President Trump as a secret agent, the present and ongoin

Story of Spitfire pilot Johnnie Johnson s heroism and skills in the skies

JOHNNIE Johnson had just the right name for a Spitfire pilot. It simply oozed Old School derring-do. But that was just the start of it, because Johnson, son of a Leicestershire policeman, also possessed enormous courage, tactical nous and an invincibility that combined to make him the top scoring RAF fighter ace of the Second World War. Now two new books by acclaimed Worcester war historian Dilip Sarkar explore the man behind the legend and flesh out his amazing  aerial exploits. Johnnie Johnson’s Great Adventure (£19.95) and Johnnie Johnson 1942 War Diary: The War Diary of the Spitfire Ace of  Aces (£25) are both published by Pen and Sword.

NSWC Indian Head unit recognized with Gears of Government nomination

Naval Surface Warfare Center Indian Head Division, or NSWC IHD, isn’t known for their expansive runways; this Navy command that sits on the banks of the Potomac River does not even have a single aircraft. But that doesn’t mean the United States Air Force contingent connected to the command isn’t getting things done. In fact, it’s just the opposite. The Air Force Civil Engineer Center’s Joint Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division at NSWC IHD was recently recognized as the Air Force Material Command’s nominee for a 2020 Gears of Government Award. The team is responsible for testing and publishing Joint Service EOD procedures, and conducts research, development, test and evaluation for emergent equipment technologies and concepts to support joint force EOD technicians.
