Boracay biz group supports stricter quarantine status for Aklan

Published August 4, 2021, 4:09 PM ILOILO CITY – As COVID-19 cases and deaths surged quickly in Aklan, a major business group now supports the government’s decision imposing stricter quarantine status even it will have a negative impact on the tourism industry of Boracay Island. The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI-Boracay Chapter) released a statement this week that it backs the efforts of the both the local government of Malay and provincial government of Aklan in curbing the alarming rise of COVID-19 cases. “Boracay Island businesses and enterprises is at a stop,” PCCI-Boracay said in a statement, following the national government decision placing Aklan under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) status since Aug 1 and that leisure travel is temporarily prohibited.

Malay s most wanted murder suspect arrested in Iloilo

Published August 3, 2021, 8:37 AM Police have arrested the most wanted person in Malay town of Aklan who was accused of killing a liaison officer of a security agency over a land dispute at the world-renowned Boracay Island. Nabbed was 39-year old Edwin Villar Lampute who used to be connected with a security agency tapped to secure a parcels of disputed lands also in Boracay. Lt. Col. Don Dicksie de Dios, chief of police of Malay Police Station, said the arrest of Lampute was based on the arrest warrant issued by a local court for case of murder which was filed against the suspect in 2017, with no bail recommended.
