HOUSTON, Miss. Starkville Police Chief Mark Ballard and Chickasaw County Sheriff James D. Meyers met in-person for the first time Tuesday afternoon. But their agencies, along with about a half-dozen others in North Mississippi, had been working together toward a common goal for weeks.
Thaxton residents recovering from storm damage

THAXTON, Miss. (WTVA) - County workers continued clean-up Monday after a round of severe weather Sunday night caused damage in the Pontotoc County town of Thaxton.
We talked to Jim Austin who lives in Thaxton.
He said he was watching WTVA s severe weather coverage when the high winds blew into Thaxton. We were watching the news and Chelsea said in seven minutes it will be here, and by the time we got to the storm house it was there, said Austin.
Algoma residents to get high-speed internet
Northern District Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley signed an agreement with WeConnect of Bruce Mississippi to install the broadband.

ALGOMA, Miss. (WTVA) - People in parts of Pontotoc County will soon have access to broadband internet.
Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley signed an agreement with the WeConnect company to expand high-speed service in and around Algoma. This is one of the best things that ever happened to this neighborhood here, said Algoma resident Raymond Wilson.
Public Service Commissioner Brandon Presley said he is trying to work out a deal for the rest of Pontotoc County to also have good internet access.
At 8:05 p.m. Sunday Bain said that he had not gotten reports of any structure damage.
âWeâve got lots of reports of trees down but none on houses so far,â Bain reported. âWe had a service line down in the Thaxton area served by Northeast Power. â
The storm swept into Pontotoc County out of Marshall County with winds reaching 60 to 70 mph, according to WTVA Weather.
âMost of the tree damage is in the Thaxton and Hurricane areas,â Bain said.
Second District Supervisor Mike McGregor said that trees were downed and blocking Wells Road, McGloflin Road, Sewell Road and Thaxton Road.

PEARL, Miss. (WTVA) - Sunday’s storm damaged at least 43 homes, six businesses and two public bridges in Calhoun County, according to the latest damage report from the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).
MEMA released its first preliminary damage report on Wednesday, but the first report did not include data from Calhoun County.
On Wednesday MEMA released its second report, this time showing data from Calhoun County.
