Union partners with Malta financing company to build houses
Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) has partnered with Credinvest International Corporation, a Malta company for the financing, designing, and development of 5, 000 fully furnished apartments.
The construction of the houses which will be in the form of two-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom stand-alone townhouses, and three-bedroom stand-alone townhouses is expected to commence in May this year.
Speaking at the announcement of the partnership on Tuesday, BOPEU President, Olefile Monakwe described the project as the greatest milestone in the history of the organization.
“In December 2020, BOPEU Services – a company established in 2016 – successfully concluded a 250 million Euros building contact with Credinvest for the finance, design, and construction of rent-to-own apartments of a 7 hectare of land in Gaborone central,” said Monakwe.

The Botswana Public Employees Union (BOPEU) and Credinvest International Botswana this week unveiled a collaborative project with CredInvest, which is expected to transform its members courtesy of a rent-to-buy scheme. BOPEU revealed it has acquired around 500hectares of prime land in Gaborone on which it will develop a city within a city.
Speaking in a breakfast seminar held at the Protea Hotel in Gaborone on Tuesday, BOPEU and Credinvest International Botswana told the business community and the media that their collaboration will create meaningful homeownership for their members.
The housing project is aimed at designing and developing close to 5000 fully furnished units ranging from apartments and stand-alone townhouses respectively.

On Wednesday the 9
th of December 2020, Mogwera’s team filed a Notice of Withdrawal of Action against Sedimo and his team with the High Court.
In the notice of withdrawal, it is written that the applicants, which are Babereki Investments, Masego Mogwera, Martin Gabobake and Thabologo Galekhutle, hereby withdraw the application against the respondent (Botswana Public Employees Union) filed with the Court on the 27
th November being an application for leave to appeal to the court of Appeal.
On the 17
th of July 2020, Babereki Investments, together with Mogwera, Gabobake and Galekhutle, filed an urgent application before Justice Dube at Lobatse High Court to have a decision to remove them from the Babereki Investments board declared unlawful and set aside.
