BDF promotions conflicts blamed on servicewomen

Some of Botswana Defence Force’s promotion and progression conflicts have been blamed on the introduction and reintegration of women in the army.
The service women’s promotions and progression seem to be unsettling their male counterparts convinced that females are being favoured on account of their gender and not merit, the recently retired Air Arm Commander, Major General, Innocent Phatshwane has revealed.
Since inception in 1977, the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) has been a males-only-club, up until in 2007, when women were introduced and reintegrated into the small army by retired Commander, Tebogo Masire following persistent calls by some legislators and commentators to de-gender the army.

IN a shocking incident reported to the Namibian Police in Ngoma – in the Chobe River’s floodplain – is a Botswana Defence Force (BDF) patrol with a mounted light machine gun on the roof of their patrol vehicle, ordering two cruise boats off the Chobe River at gunpoint.
The commander of the patrol at one stage cocked his AK-47 aiming at the boat with close to twenty passengers and two crewmen on board. Passengers were able to clearly observe how the commander shifted his AK’s safety mechanism into the automatic firing position and pointing at the boats ordering them “to leave Botswana immediately.”

The Directorate of Intelligence Services (DIS) has been advised to act fast and overhaul their ICT system as it is the source of government information leakages.
Highly placed sources have revealed that when the current administration changed the personnel they forgot one critical component in the spy world, which is the use of radio signals to tap data. Government has been left naked with confidential information leaked and ICT Experts are said to have advised the DIS to overhaul their ICT system as it is the source of the leakages as non-state actors have access to it.
Following the emergence of Corona Virus pandemic in the country, the Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST) became one of the institutions that worked tirelessly to help the government by producing products that helped with the fight against the pandemic which have ravaged not only Botswana, but also the entire world.
Speaking at the virtual awards ceremony which was held to appreciate BIUST staff and students who took part in the production of the products, in Palapye recently, BIUST Vice Chancellor Professor Otlogetswe Totolo applauded the awardees for working determinedly to produce COVID 19 response products in a concerted effort to assist the Botswana Government combat the spread of Covid-19 pandemic.
