Capitol pours P322M for infra, road projects in northern Cebu

SunStar Cebu Provincial Capitol (File photo) + March 03, 2021 THE Cebu Provincial Government is pouring in at least P322 million worth of infrastructure and road projects in the City of Bogo and municipalities of San Remigio, Medellin, and Daanbantayan. The majority of these projects are concreting and improvement of road sections. In a broadcast report by Sugbo News on March 1, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said that these road projects will boost the tourism sector of these areas. She said that proper and improved roads contribute to the opening up of economic activities in the countryside, which are aligned with the Enhanced Countryside Development program of Capitol.

Pope Francis grants request of Cebu prelate to declare a Special Jubilee Year in his archdiocese

Palma, Archbishop of Cebu, to declare within the Archdiocese a Special Jubilee Year, along with the attached plenary indulgence,” the Archdiocese of Cebu announced on Monday, March 1. “The same Authority has likewise conceded the Archbishop of Cebu the faculty to impart to the Christian faithful participating the yearlong jubilee celebration, which will start from April 4, 2021 to April 22, 2022, the Apostolic Blessing of His Holiness,” said the archdiocese.

Cebu Archdiocese to open Holy Doors

SunStar File photo March 02, 2021 THE Archdiocese of Cebu is set to open its Holy Doors in various parishes to commemorate the 500th year of the arrival of Christianity in the country. In a statement, church officials said they will kick off the activities on April 4, 2021 with a solemn liturgical rite of opening the Holy Door of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral. Similar celebrations will also be observed in eight other churches, including the oldest and farthest parishes of the Archdiocese Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Bantayan town, Bantayan Island in northern Cebu; Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish in Boljoon, San Guillermo de Aquitania Parish in Dalaguete, St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Argao, St. Catherine de Alexandria Parish in Carcar City and St. Anne Parish in Barili in the southern Cebu; San Nicolas Parish in Cebu City; and National Shrine of St. Joseph Parish in Mandaue City.

Capitol releases new guidelines to prevent entry of ASF to Cebu

SunStar File photo January 25, 2021 CENTRAL Visayas has been on heightened alert since Jan. 15, 2021, after the first case of the African swine fever (ASF) was detected in Eastern Visayas, or Region 8. Despite the Department of Agriculture (DA) 8’s assurance that it has managed to curb the spread of the disease in three barangays in Leyte by culling more than 1,000 hogs, DA 7 Director Salvador Diputado met with Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia on Friday, Jan. 22, to discuss further measures to prevent ASF’s entry to the region, particularly to Cebu Province. Diputado said Garcia was updated on the ASF situation in the towns of Abuyog, Paz and Javier in Leyte.
