8 Trinidad and Tobago writers on Bocas longlist Amanda Choo Quan last year s winner of the Johnson and Amoy Achong Caribbean Writers Prize (JAAWP). - THE 2021 longlist for the region’s only prize for emerging writers, the Johnson and Amoy Achong Caribbean Writers Prize (JAAWP), has been announced by the Bocas Lit Fest. Of the ten writers longlisted for the third and last edition of the prize, eight are from Trinidad and Tobago. This unique award is dedicated to advancing the work of an emerging Caribbean voice in the poetry genre; the 2019 and 2020 prizes were for fiction and non-fiction respectively, said a media release.

Allen-Agostini worked as a journalist for over 20 years at both the Trinidad Express and Guardian. In 2019 she partnered with Louris Martin Lee-Sing to create the Caribbean feminist stand-up comedy duo FemComTT, and also co-hosts the online chat show, The Givin Trouble Show.

Photos courtesy NGC Children s Bocas Lit Fest. - Two boys are the winners of the Dragonzilla Short Story Writing Challenge, topping 22 finalists who wrote stories and sent in videos of themselves reading them. Josse Franco, 11, and Josh Hansraj, eight, placed first in their categories to win laptops, courtesy the NGC Children’s Bocas Lit Fest. Franco was among 11 in the nine-12 age group, and Hansraj went up in the five to eight age group also of 11 competitors in the second round of the challenge.

Short Story Challenge winners announced!

Eleven-year old Josse Franco and eight-year old Josh Hansraj top their categories in Dragonzilla’s Short Story Writing Challenge to win brand new laptops, courtesy the NGC Children’s Bocas Lit Fest! Hansraj and Franco were among 22 finalists—11 in each age group, 5-8 and 9-12—who advanced to the second round of the challenge where they were granted creative license to submit videos of themselves presenting the stories they had written. Over 100 children shared their 300- to 400-word story on the theme “My Covid experience in Trinidad and Tobago” in the first stage of the online Story Writing Challenge, hosted by the NGC Children’s Bocas Lit Fest in collaboration with Nalis. The entire judging process was managed by Nalis, who put together an expert panel of educators, librarians and storytellers.
