BRIDGE DISCUSSED Wellsburg resident Walter Ferguson reflected on efforts in 2003 by the Ohio River Bridge Task Force and the Brooke-Hancock-Jefferson Metropolitan Planning Commission in garnering support for the span now under construction. Ferguson shared a video commissioned by the group in which community and business leaders commented on its anticipated benefits.
WELLSBURG A long-time supporter of a new Ohio River bridge near Wellsburg reflected on efforts to generate support for the span while stressing the need for it.
Walter Ferguson said while working as an electrical contractor at American Electric Power’s Cardinal Plant in Brilliant, he often reflected on how it took him 35 to 40 minutes to reach a workplace he could see from his Wellsburg home.

VIGIL PROPOSED â Sophia Rosso, a junior at Brooke High School, approached Follansbee Council on Monday about holding a candlelight vigil this fall to remember local residents who died during the pandemic. Rosso hopes to hold the event and others in neighboring communities as her senior honors project.
FOLLANSBEE At Monday’s Follansbee Council meeting, city officials were asked about filling the city manager’s position, addressing vacant buildings and prohibiting pet owners from keeping their dogs out in the cold.
Mayor David Velegol Jr. said he will ask council to consider naming Jack McIntosh city manager and dispense with advertising for applicants.
