Amateurs Have Busy Night At Pompano | Standardbred Canada

While the annual Hennessey-Ingraham Pro-Am Challenge was cancelled this year due to Covid-19, it didn’t stop the Florida Amateur Driving Club from going on a donation spree benefitting several very worthy charitable causes to the tune of over $5,000 on Sunday (April 25). Hennessey and Ingraham were in on the action as Go For The Greens, Tomorrow s Rainbow, the Christian Harness Horsemen’s Association and the Rockin T Equine Sanctuary benefitted as the donations from the Florida Amateur Driving Club soared over the $220,000 mark since their inception. Go For The Greens is a foundation based on three “green” pillars, including business growth generating profit and jobs, sustainable business practices fostering a healthier planet and business networking through the sport of golf. In recent years, they have focused on finding a cure for breast cancer through research and development.

Applications Available For Finkelson Scholarship

Steven Wolf, president of the Florida Chapter of the United States Harness Racing Writers Association (USHWA), has announced that the chapter is now accepting applications for its 2021 Allen J. Finkelson Scholarship Awards. The scholarship fund was established in memory of Hall of Famer Allen J. Finkelson, the former Vice President of Public Relations at Pompano Park and longtime Chairman of the Board of the national USHWA organization. “While our Florida Chapter was hesitant at first due to the pandemic that canceled our annual fundraising Florida Harness Racing Hall of Fame banquet,” said Steve Wolf, “we still felt we needed to continue our scholarship program, which is important for our young people to help them with the costs of tuition.”

Casies Believer Wins Pompano Thriller | Standardbred Canada

Casies Believer, brilliantly handled by Joe Chindano, Jr., split horses in deep stretch to capture Pompano Park’s $11,000 Open for Mares on Tuesday (April 20), stopping the timer in 1:53. The six-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar eked the narrow win by stalking leader Prairie Westerngal throughout the mile from the garden spot, leaving the cozy pocket when they straightened for the drive home. The pocket popper held off a determined Tempus Seelster by a length with Prairie Westerngal another half length away. Roll With Angel finished fourth while Evas Sports Czech picked up the final award in the classy sextet. As usual, it was Prairie Westerngal leaving with her sharp early foot, opening enough daylight to allow Casies Believer to find the spot in the garden right behind. Through an opening panel of :27.4, positions remained virtually unchanged through the :57.3 half with only Tempus Seelster gaining a spot from fifth into fourth.
