In a ‘Letter to the Editor’ entitled ‘Building a solid education Foundation,’ Walter Edey notes, and rightly so, that “an educational system is a complex multi-purpose knowledge network.” The super-structure of any education system like of any physical edifice, rests on the strength and security of its foundation.
Barbados is apparently embarking on a comprehensive reform of its education system. This would be a very ambitious project, fraught with dangers and unintended consequences. The Minister of Education might be advised firstly, to examine the foundational structure of primary education and try to remedy the deficiencies at that stage.
Rachel Rollocks -
Airports Authority employee Rachael Rollocks, 34, is Tobago s latest covid19-related death. The Division of Health, Wellness and Family Development announced the death – Tobago s eleventh – on Sunday, noting the woman had no comorbidities.
Her family on Sunday could not believe how sudden her death was. It s sad to know in a split of a second someone gone, her sister Ria Rollocks told Newsday.
Another sister, Raynell Rollocks, said Rachael began feeling unwell last week but thought it was her sinus acting up. Her nose was feeling stuffy, Raynell said.
She said someone was burning something at night and Rachael thought that was the cause of her nasal congestion.
Professor Joel Warrican says it is an injustice that in the face of trauma from COVID-19 and the ash fall, pupils are still being made to take the Common Entrance examination.
