Last Buffalo school speed zone camera turned off after lawmaker s Facebook rant
Buffalo Common Council member Rasheed Wyatt says, It shouldn’t have to be for me to do those antics to get the camera down. Author: Steve Brown Updated: 7:12 PM EDT July 15, 2021
BUFFALO, N.Y. “I’m pissed!”
It was around 8 a.m. Common Council Member Rasheed Wyatt was standing along Bailey Avenue on Facebook Live. Nearby was the last operating speed zone camera in the city, which is also in his district. And Wyatt was letting Mayor Byron Brown have it.
“People are getting tickets right now in the University District! Thank you, Mr. Mayor! I’m not going to send you a letter. I’m going to send you the people, and they’re going to take notice of how you treated them because you think you are above the law!” he said in the video.
Some Drivers Still Being Ticketed By School Zone Cameras
Just last month the Buffalo Common Council passed a new law that marked the beginning of the end of the City of Buffalo s school zone speed camera program. That new law called for, among other things, for the cameras to be turned off immediately after the law was passed.
However, according to reporting from WKBW-TV, some drivers in Buffalo are still receiving tickets after the program has ended.
Multiple people have told Common Council Member Rasheed Wyatt that they are still receiving tickets even though the camera were ordered to be shut off on June 15, 2021.
