Janice McGeachin after several journalists said they were wrongly denied access to public records. The statewide press association filed the lawsuit in 4th District Court on Monday, asking a judge to order McGeachin to fully release the records about her Education Task Force and comply with the timelines set under the state’s Public Records Act. The Idaho Press Club also wants McGeachin to pay for the club’s legal fees and pay penalties for having improperly denied the records requests.

Warren, File) Enron whistleblower Lynn Brewer has won $100,000 in a legal settlement after suing the Washington Employment Security Department for delaying her public records request. Brewer told KIRO Radio’s Dori Monson Show that a year ago, she had requested the communications related to fraud and text messages between former Commissioner Suzi LeVine and Governor Jay Inslee. At the time that Brewer filed the suit, five months after the request, she hadn’t received one document. The lawsuit found that this delay was in violation of the Public Records Act. She is still receiving records a year later.

Long hearing continues; motion to dismiss denied.     There will be one final hearing in the case of Benjamin Cody Long before heading to trial. That trial date is tentatively set for Monday, Aug. 9. This final pre-trial hearing was set for Wednesday, July 14, but after a short consultation was continued to Monday, July 26. The issue stemmed from a motion to quash presented by the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians’ Office of the Attorney General. The representative from the Attorney General’s office was not present at Court, and after a phone conversation with Attorney General Michael McConnell, it was agreed to shift the hearing to July 26.
