A proposal by the Central News Agency (CNA) to run a global video-streaming platform aimed at allowing the nation’s voice to be heard in the international community has been approved, the Ministry of Culture said yesterday.
CNA had been tasked with executing the pilot phase of the project and was invited to submit a proposal for how the platform would be run in a limited tender, after a proposal by the Public Television Service failed to pass a review earlier this year, the ministry said in a statement.

Taipei, May 5 (CNA) The Ministry of Culture (MOC) announced Wednesday that it has selected the Central News Agency (CNA) to operate an English-language video programming portal with the aim of giving Taiwan a higher global profile.
In a press statement, the ministry said a review committee voted 6-1 during a meeting the previous day to accept a proposal put forward by CNA to run the platform, which will launch in August under the name Taiwan+ (Taiwan Plus).

Under scrutiny over Channel 52, CTS predicts financial losses of NT$260m

Chinese Television System (CTS) is expecting financial losses of NT$260 million (US$9.14 million) this year, general manager Leon Chuang (莊豐嘉) told the Legislative Yuan’s Education and Culture Committee yesterday.
CTS aims to generate profits three years after it starts broadcasting its news channel on cable television, Chuang added.
The Ministry of Culture was scheduled to brief the committee on progress in drafting a public media act.
