Duke: What will unemployed do for next three weeks?
Watson Duke
Public Services Association (PSA) president Watson Duke said the Prime Minister has left hundreds of workers on the breadline and out in the cold to suffer from the impact of “harsh and unforgiving” restrictions.
On Thursday Dr Keith Rowley moved to close hundreds of businesses to reduce the risk of infection among the public.
Duke, at a press conference on Friday at PSA headquarters, called on Rowley to say how he intends to help those who may now face destitution as a result of temporary unemployment.
At a press conference, Rowley announced changes to the Public Health Ordinance which will see a three-week closure of all malls, bars, restaurants, churches, gyms, casinos, cinemas, and theatres.
Watson Duke fined $1,200 for pulling fire alarm at 2017 Arima protest
Watson Duke -
Public Services Association (PSA) president and leader of the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP) Watson Duke was fined $1,200 on Thursday for an incident involving a fire alarm at the Arima Borough Corporation in 2017.
Magistrate Avion Gill gave Duke a month to pay the fine – the maximum penalty under the Fire Services Act – but did not impose the three-month prison term because of his previous good character.
Last month, Duke was found guilty of making or causing a false report to be made to fire officials at Arima Fire Station by deliberately setting off a fire alarm at the corporation during a protest in 2017.
Marvin Gonzales -
MINISTER of Public Utilities Marvin Gonzales has said the Water and Sewerage Authority’s (WASA) action against Public Services Association (PSA) president Watson Duke must not be seen as a direct attack.
Instead, he said, it should be viewed as part of the authority’s transformational process.
“It’s not about Watson Duke against the government or Duke against Sealy or Duke against the minister. This is the government undertaking the transformation of WASA. So I have asked them (WASA executive) to focus on the work of the transformation and not to make it anything personal,” he told Newsday on Monday.

COUVA South MP Rudranath Indarsingh has taken the side of the embattled Watson Duke in his fight with Dr Lennox Sealy, executive director of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) over his tenure.
He called on Sealy to rescind the ultimatum to Duke and to adhere to the collective bargaining agreement.
He said failure to do so will set a dangerous precedent in how the State treats fairly with workers.
Indarsingh, a trade unionist, said what Sealy is trying to do shows flagrant disregard for proper industrial relations and sets a dangerous stage for restructuring at WASA.
