Cllr Terry Evans, of Chirk, came under fire for his comments about homeless people A SENIOR councillor has been reminded of his responsibilities after a complaint was raised over comments he made during a debate on homelessness. Cllr Terry Evans, who sits on Wrexham Council s ruling executive board, came under fire earlier this month after he appeared to criticise people in receipt of Housing Benefit. During a meeting of the council s homes and environment scrutiny committee, the local authority s lead member for economy said: “Good people pay their rent, these sort of people have their rent paid for them.” His remarks came after he raised objections to having homeless people with addiction issues housed in council properties in his community of Chirk, while some local residents face long waits for social housing.
Fairview Garage - Guilsfield A FORMAL complaint against the way a planning application in Guilsfield was dealt with has been sent to Powys County Council. In October, Powys Council s planning committee approved an outline planning application to build nine homes at the former Fairview garage in the middle of the village. But Guilsfield Community Council thought that the application was on hold due to the Covid-19 crisis, and had not given the county council an opinion on the scheme before it was decided. Guilsfield s meetings were suspended from March to September, and during that time members had not met to discuss the application, which was submitted to Powys in March.
A HEALTH board has agreed to reimburse a prostate cancer patient thousands of pounds after it left him facing a wait of more than three months for urgent treatment. Mr Y (anonymised) complained that Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board exceeded the referral-to-treatment target for cancer waiting times for treatment of prostate cancer and that due to the delay and potential impact on his health, he sought private treatment. Mr Y was first referred in May 2019 and should’ve received definitive treatment for his cancer within 62 days. Considering that Mr Y was told on 13 August that the waiting times for urgent treatment was three months, the Health Board would have missed the 62-day target by 106 days.
