Xcel Energy reaffirms 2021 EPS earnings guidance of $2.90 to $3.00.
Xcel Energy Inc. (NASDAQ: XEL) today reported 2021 first quarter GAAP and ongoing earnings of $362 million, or $0.67 per share, compared with $295 million, or $0.56 per share in the same period in 2020.
Earnings reflect higher electric and natural gas margins, which more than offset additional depreciation, interest charges and less allowance for funds used during construction (AFUDC).
“Xcel Energy had a strong first quarter and we are reaffirming our expectation to deliver earnings within our annual guidance range,” said Ben Fowke, chairman and CEO. “We are also pleased to have achieved a significant milestone, reducing carbon emission 51% from 2005 levels, bringing us more than halfway to our vision of delivering 100% carbon-free electricity to our customers by 2050.”

A 150 megawatt solar generating project in Sheboygan County is still under review for construction, but it reached a major milestone on Thursday as the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin voted unanimously to allow Alliant Energy’s subsidiary, Wisconsin Power and Light Company, to acquire or construct, own, and operate a total of six solar generation facilities in Wisconsin. That means 675 megawatts of renewable energy will be added to Wisconsin’s power grid.
Because of its size, the Onion River project, planned to occupy 1,900 acres in the Town of Holland, will need separate approval to green-light the construction and is still under review.

CRAWFORD COUNTY - The Crawford County Board of Supervisors formed a Broadband Study Committee at their Tuesday, April 20 meeting. The moment is timely when the talk of the nation and the state is focused on infrastructure projects such as broadband expansion. And it’s not only talk, there’s a lot of funding in the pipeline to turn the talk into reality.
“There is lots of money becoming available from the state and federal governments for broadband expansion,” Community Development Alternatives Dale Klemme told the board. “By forming a study committee, you are empowering non-interested parties to study the options and funding possibilities, and provide a recommendation to the board on how best to move forward.”
