Yesterday, a century after the tragic events of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, a committee dedicated to investigating what has been left behind by history convened to further discuss findings from last year.
The Public Oversight Committee for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Graves Investigation met virtually at 6 p.m and focused the meeting on DNA analysis. Dr. Robert Allen, Professor of Forensic Sciences at Oklahoma State University, explained the process of testing and extracting information from genetic markers being used to determine who was found buried in the cemetery.

TULSA, Oklahoma -
The search continues for possible mass graves from the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. The Public Oversight Committee for that investigation will meet Thursday night to discuss the latest findings.
At least 12 coffins containing human remains were found at Oaklawn Cemetery last summer. When will the excavation for those coffins happen? We know it will be sometime this summer, but an exact date has yet to be set. The committee is expected to give an update on that timeline as well as additional logistics.
The 12 coffins discovered last summer are in an area where researchers had previously detected anomalies. Right now, it is unknown if those coffins are associated with the race massacre, but researchers hope to identify those remains and find out their causes of death.
