Summary
The petitioners aver that Section 24(2) of the Police Act is amenable to abuse through arbitrary detention for unspecified and extended period of time without trial in violation of Articles 23 and 28 of the Constitution.

Lawyers have asked the Constitutional Court to declare as illegal, various sections of the Police Act and Criminal Procedure Code that give the Force powers on preventive arrest and detention of people without trial.

A first look at the BBC series follows the real life events of human rights lawyer Phil Shiner s [Toby Jones] pursuit of British soldiers accused of war crimes in Iraq.
Former lawyer Phil Shiner and his firm Public Interest Lawyers made more than 1,000 claims involving the British military following the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Bryan Stevenson, a civil rights lawyer acclaimed for his work confronting bias against the poor and people of color in the U.S. justice system, will deliver the address at MIT’s 2021 Commencement exercises on Friday, June 4.
Stevenson is the founder and executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, a human rights organization in Montgomery, Alabama, which has won legal challenges eliminating excessive and unfair sentencing, exonerating innocent death row prisoners, confronting abuse of the incarcerated and the mentally ill, and aiding children prosecuted as adults.
Stevenson has argued and won multiple cases at the United States Supreme Court, including a 2019 ruling protecting condemned prisoners who suffer from dementia and a landmark 2012 ruling that banned mandatory life-imprisonment-without-parole sentences for all children 17 or younger. The Coalition of Public Interest Lawyers and Advocates has threatened to use every lawful means to enforce the rights of human rights activist, Mr Omoyele Sowore, and four others, who were arrested by the police, in the event that the authorities fail to release the activists unconditionally.
In a statement signed by the coalition s National Coordinator, Pelumi Olajengbesi, on Friday, the group condemned the assault on the activists who were out to protest on New Year s Eve.
