KUALA LUMPUR: While most Malaysians complied with the first movement control order last March, this time around people have adopted a carefree approach that has not helped reduce the number of Covid-19 cases.
Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Jaafar said the police were concerned over the huge increase in the number of compounds issued to people who violated Covid-19 standard operating procedures in just the first three weeks of this year.
He said a total of 13,449 compounds were issued for various offences during the MCO as at Jan 27.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Marine Police Force (PPM) has recorded a seizure of smuggled goods worth RM29.8 million in 2020 involving 407 cases.
Without divulging further details, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar said that among the most popular items being smuggled in were liquor and numerous brands of cigarettes.
He said PPM had also detained 230 individuals who were involved in smuggling activities nationwide during the same period.
‘’For 2019, we seized various smuggled items worth about RM102.9 million with the arrests of 392 individuals nationwide in 687 cases,’’ he told Bernama in Bukit Aman, here, recently.

KUALA LUMPUR: The 12 drones received by the Royal Malaysia Police last month will be used to curb smuggling activities along the country’s borders, said Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahim Jaafar.
Abdul Rahim said the drones, donated by British American Tobacco, will boost air surveillance activities conducted by the police.
He said the high-technology drones could operate silently up to a height of 800 metres. The drones are currently with the Air Wing Unit in Subang.
“Whenever we conduct an operation, we will use these drones. For instance, in Kelantan, we use technology to aid us.without them (drones), it will be difficult for us.
Smuggling of frozen meat recurring in border states

Smugglers are using various techniques to bring in illegal meat into the country.
KUALA LUMPUR – Police today confirmed that frozen meat is being smuggled in several of the country’s state borders.
Without revealing more details, Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Abd Rahim Jaafar said among the states facing this problem were Kelantan and Sarawak.

The issue is not a new one, he said, adding that the police were alert and had made arrests.
“Yes, there is such activity going on. The smuggling of frozen meat is rampant in these border areas but we have made arrests and seizures,” he said.
