Cornell, known to many as ‘Strop’ after his character on the
Paul Hogan Show, had a number of very successful high profile business ventures in his life. He was an intelligent and creative force behind World Series Cricket and the
Crocodile Dundee films as well as the purchaser of both the Hotel Brunswick and the Beach Hotel in early 1990s, a move credited with putting Byron on the map for city visitors.
Cornell, a journalist, met Paul Hogan whilst working on
A Current Affair, and became his manager, later appearing as Strop on the hugely successful

I would like to say a big thank you to The Byron Shire Echo for presenting me with a community award for The Echo Business Heart Award at The Echo Awards night at the Bowling Club in Bangalow.
It was great to see other people recognised who do such important work in the community who don’t usually put themselves forward for recognition.
As Mandy Nolan said during the evening ‘it is all about community’. I would like to acknowledge that The Echo is part of our community and, whether you like it or not, it has allowed people in the community and the Mullumbimby Chamber of Commerce to have their voices heard on a range of issues and concerns.
