The deal thrashed out with casino-averse Sonoma County officials, was done after the county agreed to waive its annual $750,000 payment from the tribe for 2020 and 2021.
The tribe has a revenue-share deal with the county for its River Rock Casino on its reservation near Geyserville, 45 miles north of Petaluma. But the casino was closed for two and a half months at the beginning of the pandemic, leading to considerable revenue loss.

From Citi to SMBC Citigroup heavyweight Scott Flood has moved to Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, where he’s been named managing director and US general counsel of the company and general counsel of SMBC Americas Holdings, its US bank holding company. In his new role, New York-based Flood is responsible for overseeing the legal function for SMBC Group across the Americas, advising the board and other senior executives on legal and regulatory issues. He succeeded William Haney, who is retiring and will serve in an advisory capacity through the transition.
CARSON CITY The Culinary Workers Union Local 226 continues to negotiate with resorts to call back laid off workers before hiring new ones for a lower wage or offering former workers a lower wage when they reapply for their former jobs. SB386, also known as the Right to Return bill, hopes to require companies to offer those employees who were laid off during the pandemic their former jobs back. The proposed legislation would apply to hospitality and tourism workers who were laid off after March 12, 2020, and employed for at least six months before the state shut down nonessential businesses. The bill enables workers to return to work for up to two years, if their contract allows that, and they could file a civil lawsuit against companies that don’t comply.
