POTSDAM â The villageâs primary sources of greenhouse gas emissions have been identified by a local task force, which will aid the goal of becoming a state-certified Climate Smart Community.
The âgreenhouse gas inventoryâ provides a guideline for how to reduce emissions in the village, which Clarkson Universityâs Dr. Susan E. Powers identified as a âreally important partâ of gaining the certification, which entitles communities to exclusive state grants pertaining to energy-related projects.
Dr. Powers said that in order to reduce emissions, âwe have to know where they came from,â speaking to the village Board of Trustees on Monday as a representative of the Climate Smart Communities Task Force.

POTSDAM – Pine Street Arena is expected to reopen Sunday, Jan. 24, after an 11-day closure due to COVID-19 concerns.
“The shutdown of Pine Street Arena was an act of precaution, as cases in Potsdam continue to rise, and as we learned of guests that were either in quarantine or at higher risk to keep numbers trending in the wrong direction,” said Trey Smutz, Potsdam Recreation Director.
“The brief closure is designed to give officials and coaches more time to develop stronger safety protocols to protect players, families, coaches, arena staff and most importantly the community. Although shutting down for a little over a week is not ideal, the decision was made so that a longer shutdown or pause doesn’t interrupt our plans to stay open until at least mid-March,” he said.
