Public Health Sudbury and Districts said that it is optimistic about the future in light of a successful vaccination program, but it is still cautioning the public about the possibility of an increase in COVID-19 cases this fall.

Since the beginning of July, 70 per cent of COVID-19 cases reported in Public Health Sudbury and Districts service area are people who have been infected with a variant that has the Delta mutation profile.

“The Delta variant can spread more easily and is associated with higher rates of hospitalization, ICU admission, and death as compared with the Alpha variant,” Medical Officer of Health Dr. Penny Sutcliffe said in a release.
