This year’s NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament was nothing short of historic. On that, we all agree. And most people understand that the backdrop against which it was set was unprecedented in so many ways and logistically complex and had a seemingly endless supply of unique challenges to overcome.
Reasonable people, too, acknowledge the severity and somber nature of the events that resulted in the Indianapolis-controlled environment in the first place.
As we have all said over and over again: May we never have to host this kind of an event in this way for these reasons ever again.
INDIANAPOLIS – The NBA Foundation today announced that it has selected Center for Leadership Development (CLD) in Indianapolis for a grant award to support its programs for minority students. A long-time partner of the Pacers Foundation and Pacers Sports & Entertainment, CLD has for more than three decades provided local youth and their parents with important educational opportunities, leadership development, and mentorship. I am incredibly appreciative and proud of the NBA Foundation s investment in the young people of our city through this well-deserved recognition of the Center for Leadership Development, said Rick Fuson, PS&E President & COO and the Chairman of the Pacers Foundation. Dennis Bland and his experienced team are impacting individual lives every day, but they are also changing the trajectory for entire generations of Indianapolis families.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) The sports arena is often seen as a man’s domain, but the Executive Vice President for Corporation Communications, Community Engagement and Facilities Operations of Pacers Sports & Entertainment, Mel Raines, proves it’s just as much a woman’s world.
Over the last few years, she has played a major role in some of Indy’s biggest sporting events. Raines comes from a long background in politics. From the Super Bowl to March Madness and helping Indianapolis win the bid for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, Indiana can compete, she says.
“I mean we are known as being a great event host, and I think (what) we are about to embark on in the month of March is just another example of that,” Raines said. “No other city has hosted every game of the NCAA tournament, and we are excited to be a big part of it here. We’re probably gonna have 16 games between the first and second round and the Sweet 16.”
