Twins graduating from Beloit high school land full-ride scholarships to Brown University

By Logan Rude Apr 9, 2021 1:35 PM BELOIT, Wis. Two twins graduating from Beloit Memorial High School are headed to Brown University in the fall on full-ride scholarships. Kimberly and Kerilynn Guervara are among the 1,652 students admitted to the Ivy League university’s 2025 class, according to the School District of Beloit. More than 46,000 students applied to the university this year, making it the largest applicant pool in Brown’s history. “Kerilynn and Kimberly are exceptional young adults and students who took advantage of the many academic and extracurricular opportunities available to them at Beloit Memorial High School,” said School District of Beloit Superintendent Dan Keyser. “They are representative of the many students in our District who excel in the classroom and in our community with their volunteer work. Their future is looking bright, and I wish them much success.”

WIAA Alt-Fall girls swim championships Tuesday night

By Jim Scott Apr 5, 2021 12:14 AM THE CHAMPIONSHIPS: The Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Alternate Season Girls Swimming and Diving Championships will be held Tuesday, April 6, at the Waukesha South High School Natatorium. The price of admission for the limited number of tickets afforded to schools for the championships is $11. MEET INFORMATION: The alternate season opportunity was created by the Board of Control for school sports programs opting out of fall participation to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 during the pandemic. There is one division of competition in the alternate season Tournament Series. The diving competition begins Tuesday, April 6 at 12:30 p.m., with the swimming finals scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Here is the order of events (all events in yards):

April 22, 1943 - December 26, 2020 Beloit, WI - Ronald E Fawcett, age 77, of Beloit died Saturday December 26, 2020 at Beloit Memorial Hospital. He was born April 22, 1943 to the late Donald and Dorothy (Fredrick) Fawcett in Beloit, WI. Ron married Karen Sue Arndt, the love of his life, on Sept. 26, 1964, in Superior, WI. She preceded him in death on August 15, 2012. He graduated from Beloit Memorial High School, class of 1961, and worked at Bendix Besly before returning to school. He then attended UW Whitewater and earned a degree in Sociology and Psychology. Ron started his career in corrections oriented counseling as the Adult Services Director at Rock Valley Community Corrections where he developed and implemented social programs that helped rehabilitate high risk individuals. The Beloit Project became a nationally recognized program that was replicated by the U.S. Department of Justice and is still taught in institutions and treatment facilities across the country today.
