•The Equator event, which is part of the FIA African Rally Championship (ARC), was to act as a dry run of the World Rally Championships Safari Rally which is slated for June 24-27.
•Equator Rally has attracted several drivers from Asia and Africa.
Following the suspension of all sporting events in the country, Kenya Motor Sport Federation is engaging relevant authorities on the possibilities of hosting the ARC Equator Rally later this month.
KMSF chairman, Phineas Kimathi, in a statement to announce the suspension of all planned motorsports events in the country, said: “The African Rally Championship (ARC) Equator Rally scheduled for April 23-25, 2021 here in the country will be the subject of discussion with all stakeholders and a decision will be taken and communicated in good time.”

Ben Sulayem bids to replace Todt as FIA president

Former rally driver Mohammed ben Sulayem has launched a campaign for the FIA presidency, with Jean Todt’s term due to end in December.
Todt has held the role since 2009, having been re-elected unopposed for the past two elections, but an FIA ruling states a president can serve a maximum of three terms.
So this will be his last in the role and 14-time FIA Middle East Rally Championship winner Ben Sulayem hopes to take his place.
It is not the first time he has been a candidate in the race having previously challenged Todt in 2013, but withdrew his name from consideration at a late stage.
