As metro Phoenix continues to grow as a hot spot dining destination, more restaurant chains from outside Arizona are eyeing real estate in the Valley of the Sun.
Last year Midwest import Cooper s Hawk Winery & Restaurant opened in Scottsdale, with a second location planned for Chandler this year. Others that have already come to Phoenix are also expanding: Deep dish chain Lou Malnati s opened in Glendale and Chicago-area hot dog chain Portillo s is also set to open in Glendale this spring.
People in the Valley can now look forward to new out-of-state chains, from a ghost kitchen serving Asian takeout to a popular taco shop out of Texas. Here are five restaurants making moves in metro Phoenix:

An accountant took part in two loan scams, including one in which she and an alleged accomplice posed as the owners of a property in an attempt to take a loan of more than $1 million.
Foo Wei Lee was also part of a corporate loan fraud, in which financial firms were duped into disbursing more than $230,000 in total.
The 48-year-old Singaporean pleaded guilty in a district court yesterday to nine charges for offences including cheating and forgery. Eighteen other charges will be considered during sentencing.
Foo s alleged accomplices are 24-year-old Khor Choon Kiat, who was her boyfriend at the time; his mother Sim Seok Kuan, 53; and his friend Yeo Hwa Piao, 48. Their cases are still pending.

The organizers of the San Diego Latino Film Festival learned something surprising after going virtual last year: Less really is more.
In its pre-pandemic editions, the 28-year-old festival presented up to 200 films annually, the same number it screened virtually last year. For 2021, the number of films will be halved and will include two drive-in movie nights.
“If you log on to festivals and see so much content that you spend 30 minutes finding a movie, you don’t want to watch anything,” said Moisés Esparza, programming manager of Media Arts Center San Diego, the nonprofit that produces the festival. “It can be overwhelming akin to Netflix. But our films are carefully selected by curators to make it easy for viewers to make choices.”
Following weeks of headline-grabbing attention from a social media-fueled stock trading frenzy, GameStop announced Tuesday its Chief Financial Officer Jim Bell will resign from his role effective March 26.
