Perhaps, the orchestra could move to Ringling shopping center, Gillespie Park or Pioneer Park, or the old grounds of the Players Theatre, instead.
The costs of moving the tennis courts and bulldozing a pond that is home to many birds is too much. Especially since Payne Park was constructed at a cost of $9 million in 2007, after the demolition of the baseball park.
The orchestra should remain in the arts district, near the Boulevard of the Arts, not Payne Park. It is tragic that the Players is moving to Manatee County. It, too, should be kept in Sarasota.

SARASOTA – For all the talk and overtures by the City Commission on Monday about the importance of the Sarasota Orchestra and the city’s desire to keep it in Sarasota, there was one thing noticeably absent from the discussion about revisiting an earlier decision not to allow a new concert hall in Payne Park: The orchestra itself.
Nevertheless, city commissioners voted 4-1 to allow the city staff to explore a potential new home for the orchestra, including in and around Payne Park – breathing new life into a plan that was met with staunch opposition in 2019 by tennis players, park patrons and nearby neighborhoods.
