Search 3D Data Collection underway for Safeguarding the House of Wonders in the Stone Town of Zanzibar World Heritage site Monday, 8 February 2021 © UNESCO UNESCO, in partnership with World Monuments Fund (WMF), sent a team of experts from the University of Cape Town led by Prof. Heinz Rüther to the Stone Town of Zanzibar World Heritage property from 28 January to 2 February 2021. They  are undertaking 3D data collection at the historic House of Wonders building, which partially collapsed on 25 December 2020, as part of an in-depth survey and condition assessment. The mission team has captured metrically accurate spatial data using laser scanning, drone and terrestrial photography for photogrammetry, panorama photography and satellite images to ensure a high degree of accuracy. It is using the latest equipment to determine the presence and quantities of deformations at the House of Wonders. “All data captured will then be processed to generate 3D mode

Nilsson This year’s scholarship for the World Heritage site Decorated Farmhouses of Hälsingland is now open for applications until 18 February 2021. The World Heritage site was inscribed in 2012 and consists of seven large timber farmhouses with richly decorated interior. They are part of a concentration of over a thousand surviving timber structures in the Hälsingland area of reflect a timber building tradition that originated in the Middle Ages. Objective The World Heritage Scholarship is a residency that involves the recipient staying and living in one or two World Heritage farms for a period of one month as well as a grant of € 5,000 to carry out their idea or project.

Final Regional Workshop in the Framework of the Third Cycle of Periodic Reporting in Africa

Search 17-19 February 2021 In the framework of the Third Cycle of Periodic Reporting, which started in the Africa region in September 2019, the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, in close collaboration with the African World Heritage Fund and UNESCO Field Offices, is organising a final regional online workshop for National Focal Points of the Africa region to present the outcomes of Periodic Reporting Exercise and to collect and develop recommendations to the preparation of the Regional Report and draft Action Plan (2022-2027) to be approved by World Heritage Committee during the 44th session of the World Heritage Committee. This workshop was initially planned to take place in Zimbabwe. However, due to the current restrictive situation imposed by the COVID19 pandemic, convening an online workshop became the safest and the most feasible solution at this period. 

Norway supports animal surveillance in Pendjari and W National Parks (Benin)

With a view to safeguarding the Outstanding Universal Value of the property, this initiative aimed to increase monitoring and ensure the protection of these species in these two national parks, which are components of the W-Arly-Pendjari Complex World Heritage site (Benin, Burkina Faso, Niger). Both parks are managed by conservation non-profit African Parks through a partnership with the Ministry of Living Environment and Sustainable Development, the National Agency for Heritage Promotion and Tourism Development (ANPT), and the National Centre for the Management of Wildlife Reserves (CENAGREF).
