Shutterstock/SynthEx All eyes turned to ransomware last week as D.C. police suffered an attack and the a public-private sector collaboration known as the Ransomware Task Force (RTF) delivered an intensive slate of recommendations for tackling these cyber threats.
Loss to ransomware intensified over the course of 2020, and the Department of Justice reportedly said last year was the most expensive yet for victims of these attacks, with cyber criminals demanding an average of $100,000 in each incident.
Boy safe after trip through MSP Airport baggage system

ST PAUL, Minn. A 9-year-old boy is safe after getting into a conveyor belt baggage system Saturday afternoon, Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport authorities said.
Airport spokesperson Patrick Hogan said the boy dove onto an in-line bag screening belt right where it leaves the Terminal 1 ticketing lobby and heads into the back-of-house conveyor system.
Hogan said 3 to 5 minutes later, airport police found the boy unharmed on the conveyor system. The boy, who was part of a group of about 20 people, was released back to his parents.
Court Dismisses Class-Action Securities Lawsuit Against Pilgrimâs Pride

On Monday, a District of Colorado final judgement ruled in favor of Pilgrimâs Pride Corporation dismissing securities allegations against the company in a putative class-action lawsuit filed by Patrick Hogan. This ruling dismisses the second amended complaint in the matter and ends the plaintiffsâ attempts to hold the company accountable for reduced value in securities due to antitrust allegations.Â
According to the amended final judgement, claims which were barred by the statute of repose were dismissed with prejudice, while claims from the plaintiff which were barred based on a lack of standing were dismissed without prejudice, but were âeffectively dismissed with prejudiceâ unless the plaintiff can prove he purchased stock in Pilgrimâs Pride during the required time period.Â
