The City of London has approved a new 33-storey tower in the Square Mile.
Hong Kong developer Tenacity, which had earlier declared the “era of the office not over” after winning planning permission for a nearby 30-storey tower at 70 Gracechurch Street last month, has now secured the green light for the building at 55 Gracechurch Street.
The newly approved scheme will be made up of three staggered elements as well as a retractable vehicular lift, which will be turned into public space by day. It has been designed by architect Kohn Pederson Fox and aims to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating through use of measures including living roofs, terrace planting and a green wall.
Another City skyscraper approved ahead of planning brouhaha
Another skyscraper is coming to the City of London, with a 33-storey building set to be built at 70 Gracechurch Street.
Developers Tenacity – who last month received approval for a similar size development at 55 Gracechurch Street – received the thumbs up from the City Corporation Tuesday lunchtime.
It is another welcome vote of confidence in the revival of the City, despite the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic and work-from-home regulations.
The public gallery on the 29th and 30th floor
As with their other development, Tenacity’s plans include a public gallery on upper floors as well as a host of green initiatives, including living roofs and a green wall at street level.
