Republican lawmakers are calling on the Pritzker administration to address a backlog in processing firearm owner and concealed carry license applications, saying the state-required 30-day process now is taking an average of four months.
Illinois State Police, whose Firearms Services Bureau is responsible for administrating licenses, acknowledges the delay is unacceptable but cites massive growth in gun ownership and years of under-funded staffing.
