A man accused of rape was found not guilty in New Plymouth District Court on Thursday.
A man accused of raping his friend was found not guilty in a jury re-trial in the New Plymouth District Court on Thursday. Kamyn Murray John Pratt was tried for the rape in 2019, but the jury of 12 was unable to reach a verdict and was dismissed. The re-trial began on Tuesday and Pratt pleaded not guilty to a charge of sexual violation by rape. It was alleged Pratt had raped the complainant while she slept in the early hours of March 22, 2018, at her New Plymouth home.
An agreed police summary of facts stated John and his partner of 10 years, with whom he has four children, were at their home address in early October 2018 and he was drunk. The couple argued about John wanting to drive the victim’s car, which he then drove off in before returning an hour later when they resumed the verbal altercation. John grabbed the woman by the arm and attempted to pull her out of the house, but she fell to the floor to stop him dragging her out. “The defendant grabbed the victim by the leg and up ended her causing her to fall on her back.”

With the inclusion of Victor Caratini in the Yu Darvish trade to the Padres, the Cubs will have to acquire a backup catcher, since Jed Hoyer has said Miguel Amaya won’t start the season in the big leagues.
Let’s first assume that the Cubs aren’t going to trade Willson Contreras.
Jason Castro could be a useful backup to Contreras, and then perhaps serve as a mentor to Amaya in 2022 if Contreras is dealt, or let go after one year if the Cubs wanted to go with a Contreras/Amaya combo.
