Actor claims India had a flourishing economy before being colonised. Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon has said that the British owe Indians an ‘apology’ for the adverse effects of its colonisation on the latter’s economy. While responding to a tweet which claimed India was the richest country in the world until the British colonised it, Raveena asserted, “India used to be the richest country in the world until the British invasion in the early 17th Century.” She added, “They still owe us an apology for the loot and thieving.” Many agreed with her, adding that that was the ‘bare minimum’ the British could do. One of Raveena’s fans, however, quipped, “Says someone who has done thefts of millions of heart, joking.”
