Northern Uganda’s peace process looks to be on its last legs. Talks have all but collapsed between Uganda’s government and the troublesome rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), as both sides take to the bush to resume full hostilities. But have they really blown their last chance for peace? It is eight months since the Ugandan government and LRA first decided to talk to each other. For 16 years, all they had ever exchanged was gunfire. On Tuesday, January 19, Mr Samuel Odonga Otto, the Aruu County Member of Parliament, was taken to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital in Gulu Town after he collapsed while recording a statement at Pader Central Police Station in Pader District.
The lawmaker reportedly started feeling unwell last Saturday, two days after he lost his bid to represent the people of Aruu County in Parliament.
While being interrogated by police for allegedly escaping from lawful custody on January 6 at Rackoko Trading Centre in Awere Sub-county, Pader District, Mr Odonga developed fever and nausea and subsequently collapsed.

According to reports, Mr Otto fell sick while in police custody.
Mr Otto was detained over an earlier incident where he allegedly escaped from police custody.
He had been arrested for disobeying the Covid-19 health guidelines and going against the Standard Operating Procedures that were announced by the Electoral Commission to guide candidates during the 2021 general elections campaign period.
According to reports, when he was being questioned by Pader District Police Commander (DPC), Mr Ramathan Thai Mr Otto complained that he was unwell.
Mr Otto was rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital where he was received emergency treatment related to suspected poisoning and referred to Mulago National Hospital for further management.
