More than four years after it first demonstrated its technology by delivering Slurpees and Domino’s pizza by air, startup Flirtey officially opened pre-orders for its drone delivery system on Thursday.
“We’ve now finished our technology for certification and we’re taking preorders,” said Matthew Sweeny, founder and CEO of Flirtey. “It’s full steam ahead.”
Flirtey’s drone technology has already received regulatory certification in New Zealand, according to Sweeny. The company also remains focused on completing the Federal Aviation Administration’s certification process in the United States. Flirtey was part of a fast-tracked FAA Integration Pilot Program for drones in partnership with the city of Reno. The program ended last year on Oct. 25.
