The elections are being conducted in three phases and the voting for the second and third phase will be carried out on January 19 and 21, respectively. In the first phase, the voting in 1,227 gram panchayats was held from 8 am to 4 pm. The candidates are contesting the elections as independents and not on party symbols this time. The electoral officer stated that as many as 7,583 polling parties ensured smooth conduct of voting in the first phase. The counting of votes for the ward members, deputy village heads and village heads will be conducted soon after completion of voting.

Gujarat: Surat court issues non-bailable warrant in cheque dishonour case | Surat News

Representative image SURAT: Additional chief judicial magistrate (Surat) issued a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Sunil Jariwala, who was convicted by the court on Monday in a cheque dishonor case. As per the case, Sunil Jariwala, a proprietor of Taxo Fab, was convicted under Section 255 (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1973 for the charge levied under section 138 of Negotiable Instrument Act and was sentenced for simple imprisonment for 15 months with Rs 30 lakh as fine. For the non-payment of fine the accused have to undergo simple imprisonment of five months separately. As the accused did not remain present before this court, a non-bailable warrant is to be issued for execution of Sentence, the court ordered.

Representative image SURAT: The additional senior civil judge and additional chief judicial megistrate (Surat) issued non-bailable warrant (NBW) against Ashaben Pavasiya who has been convicted for two-year imprisonment under Negotiable Instrument Act in cheque dishonor case. Court also ordered Ashaben to pay Rs 5 lakh to the complainant, Haroon Rasid Sheikh, within 30 days of the order. While pronouncing the judgement on December 21, the court issued a non-bailable warrant against her for not appearing in the court proceedings. According to the case, Ashaben Pavasiya, a resident of Katargam, is a businesswoman and sells readymade ladies garments and sarees on the name of First Look Designer and Panghat Designer in Surat. She needed some money for her business and therefore she took Rs 2.50 lakh money from Haroon Sheikh and Rs 7.50 lakh from his son Anwar as hand loan in 2017.
