Flipping through one of the books recently, it reminded City Manager Edward Augustus Jr. of Worcester’s inflated population nearly 100 years ago.
“It had a chart of the population,” Augustus said. “I was looking at the early part of the 20th century, we had a number of years where the city’s population was 196,000, it was higher then. We were over 200,000 in different periods.”
Polar Park s concession stands will include some well known Worcester restaurants among its options for Worcester Red Sox baseball games.
The team said Thursday it has signed a list of places to serve food at the $159.5-million baseball stadium, which could begin hosting games as soon as April. They include:
Polar Beverages, a Worcester manufacturer, whose corporate name adorns the stadium
Table Talk Pies, another Worcester manufacturer, whose longtime plant stands directly next to the ballpark.
Coney Island Hot Dogs, a Worcester institution that stands a block or so around the corner
Akra, an eatery at the Worcester Public Market a block in the other direction on Kelley Square.
