President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has met with the country s parliamentary corps, at which the tasks of National parliament as well as the priority areas of legislative work at the next stage of development of the independent Turkmen state in the era of power and happiness were specified.
Prior to the meeting, the head of state has held a session exchanging views with the leaders of the Mejlis, political parties and public organizations on the key tasks of further development of independent neutral Motherland in 2021, the motto of which is Turkmenistan – Home of Peace and Trust.

International community concerned over the arrest of opposition leader Melia, protests break out

On February 23, at 8.50 the chairman of the opposition United National Movement party Nika Melia was arrested during the special ops storming of the partys headquarters. Melias supporters resisted the SWATs entering the building, who then broke in through windows. During the operation, which lasted for about half an hour, tear gas was released in the building, and the partys property was severely damaged.
Newly appointed PM Irakli Gharibashvili responded to Melias arrest by saying that the government and law enforcements actions were completely in line with the democratic standards and applauded the police efforts, adding that he is proud of them. He noted that Melia has been found guilty in the Cartu case and in the case of inciting violence during the 2019 protests as he was encouraging people to break into the parli
Special Commission of Georgian Parliament to investigate possible election violations

On February 17, the Georgian Parliament announced the creation of a temporary commission that will investigate the conduct of the October 2020 Parliamentary Elections and assess whether any of the alleged violations took place.
The bill to create a special commission, authored by the member of the ruling Georgian Dream party Mamuka Mdinaradze, was passed with 78 votes. The commission is created for three months, and, according to Mdinaradze, members of the opposition bloc are welcome to join the commission to clear out any questions regarding the election results as the door to participate in the committee remains open .
NYP condemns aerial bombardment of Orlu

The Ndigbo Youth Parliament, NYP, Saturday condemned the alleged aerial bombardment in Orlu, Imo state, saying “aside the videos from the eyewitness sent to us, we received calls of tensions and anxieties from the citizens of the communities in Orlu where the aerial bombardments took place.”
Speaker of the Parliament, Rikki Nwajiofor in a statement yesterday described the alleged military action as “a joke taken too far”.
The statement read: “How on earth can there be aerial bombardments by the military jets in a zone that is not bedevilled by terrorism nor banditry whereas the zones that have witnessed incessant kidnappings, cattle rustling, banditry and the likes, are spared of such bombardments? Is the military not aware of the recent kidnappings in Niger state and other parts of the Northern region?
