Calgary remained firmly in the grip of a bitter cold snap on Tuesday, with cancelled classes, traffic troubles and ski hill closures.
Environment Canada expects the frigid temperatures to persist into the weekend for many areas in Alberta, with Calgary forecast to reach a high of only -17 C by Saturday. Flurries were expected overnight Tuesday, clearing late Wednesday morning.

All of Alberta and Saskatchewan remains under an extreme cold warning. Environment Canada is reminding people to cover up while outdoors because frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.
