The show must go on line: COVID-19 forces performing arts groups to rethink tradition

In this season of lights, stages remain dark, as pandemic restrictions banning live performances continue. But Seattle-area performing arts groups are giving us a chance and hope of escaping a dreary, showless fate. Organizations — many of which typically get a hefty chunk of their annual revenue from their holiday shows — have determined the show must go on, even if it means the show must go on … line. Most of these organizations project the virtual offerings will bring in only a small fraction of their usual holiday revenues. And the cast and crew of these virtual shows have found themselves filling multiple roles due to staff cuts and navigating new mediums and technology.
