Forum Chair s Statement- On The Micronesian President s Feb 2021 Communique

TUVALU PRIME MINISTER HON. KAUSEA NATANO on the MICRONESIA PRESIDENT’S FEBRUARY 2021 COMMUNIQUE As the Chair of the Pacific Islands Forum, I am saddened by the recent decision of the Micronesian Presidents’ Summit on 8 February 2021 to initiate their withdrawal, through national processes, from the Pacific Islands Forum family. The Forum Family will not be complete without its Micronesian brothers and sisters. If there remains any possibility of a resolution to this impasse, I would hope that we can explore this in the name of regional unity and solidarity, recognising the existential and current challenges of climate change and COVID-19 demanding our undivided attention.

Training Empowers South Choiseul Kava Farmers

Monday, 1 February 2021, 6:39 pm Total of 30 farmers has successfully completed two days of Kava training workshop held at Sivai community, Katupika ward 2 in South Choiseul Province recently. Taqu Conservation and Marine Protected Area financed the training through the management of Chief David Hakezama from Boeboe village and facilitated by Chief Field Officer (CFO) from the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL), Extension Department in Honiara, MacDonald Hiva and James Tahopa, Senior Field Officer (SFO) for Western Province Extension office. Farmer participants from villages including Boeboe, Sivai, Makaqa, Viviruni, Ludurango, Zarana, Lituni, Potutu, Luqubule and Taqu Island attended the training. Fiji’s National Disaster and Management Office (NDMO) released an initial statement yesterday with new curfew hours as Fiji braced itself for Tropical Cyclone Ana. The Western Division curfew was from 12 pm Saturday, January 30 till 4 am Monday, February 1. For the Central, Eastern and Northern Divisions, the curfew was from 4 pm Saturday till 4 am Monday.
